The Eighth Annual O’Keeffe Irish Dance Celebration took place on Thursday, March 21st, 2019 in the Saint Maur Fine Arts Auditorium with the performance of 30 students from Elementary to High School.
Saint Maur International School's yearly visit to the RIKEN Yokohama Campus took place on Monday, February 25th. This is one of several opportunities for our IB Biologists to connect with the world of research and academia, and to discover the making of cutting edge science.
Over the past few years, the Science Department has been producing a number of videos presenting some of the various experimental techniques routinely used in its labs. The initiative was started by a group of IB students who wished to share their experience and newly acquired skills with fellow scientists.
This weekend at YC&AC the Mighty Cougars faced off against their rivals from BST and TIS and performed fantastically, coming away with 2 wins and one draw in our best result of the season so far.
This year’s High School Drama Club production was an original adaptation by Nicolas Gregoriades, the Director of Fine Arts and Head of Drama at Saint Maur International School, of George Orwell’s dystopian classic “1984“. It featured three Winstons (the protagonist) and an ensemble of 16 actors who have been guided by Grade 10 student, Yuka, in some spectacular feats of physical theatre.
This year the Saint Maur Speech Contest team had a remarkably successful day at the annual competition, hosted by Seisen International School on Saturday 17 November 2018. A wonderful atmosphere was created by talented and enthusiastic students competing in a spirit of intensity and friendship. Our overall total was 67 points, placing us second amongst the six competing schools. This was 15 points higher than our third-place finish in 2017, and it also exceeded the 65 points that we scored in 2016 and the 66 points accumulated in 2014 when we tied for second place.
Six students from Yokohama Science Frontier High School (YSFH) visited Saint Maur between November 14th – 16th as part of the annual exchange programme. The students followed their Grade 10 and 11 hosts and as well as taking a keen interest in how Science is taught at Saint Maur, participated in the full range of regular classes and activities. The event provided students with the opportunity to find out about the differences between the Japanese education system and life at an International School. Many of the students were surprised by the differences between them.
The Lantau Island Irish Dance Feis (Competition) in Hong Kong took place on October 27th, 2018 with the performance of four Saint Maur students: Gr. 4 Aya, Gr. 7 Rio and Rin, and Gr. 9 Anna. In this competition, approximately 100 dancers from Japan, China-Shanghai, Taiwan and Hong Kong performed. Our students challenged their technique, knowledge and experience in different categories bringing home a number of medals and trophies.
On Sunday November 18, the Parent Support Group held its annual Christmas Bazaar, our main fundraising event of the year. The weather was in our favour and together with a rich program including stalls, food booths, music, dance, Santa visits, storytelling and games, it attracted a large crowd from our community as well as from the wider public.
On Friday, November 2nd we held our annual Sports Day for Elementary, Middle and High School. It was beautiful weather and a fantastic day was had by all.
